I was at this show in St. Louis. Up to the minute she took the stage, everything about the night had been bad. And then she took the stage and it was amazing! Saw her again last night (4/5/24) in Thousand Oaks, CA and it was amazing again!

I was a young music critic for a regional newspaper in 1988 when this unknown female singer came to a tiny venue for a gig. She was with Island Records, which was interesting, but there had been problems with the album, rejected by the label, producer fired, looked bad. I went to see her anyway, in case there was a story and because that was my job. Wow. I remember clearly when she belted out this song. Her voice is HUGE; you have to see her live to get the full impact. We all just stood there exchanging glances and going, WTF? Doesn't happen often, but from Day One, there was never any doubt she was going to be a big deal. Deserved success.
